Teun Voeten is an award winning war photographer and author based in New York and Brussels. Originally, he studied cultural anthropology and philosophy at Leiden University. Over the last 25 years, he covered conflicts world wide for publications such as Vanity Fair and Newsweek and organizations as the UNHCR and ICRC.

He made books on the underground homeless in New York, the war in Sierra Leone and the drug violence in Mexico. Voeten also organizes exhibitions, gives workshops and is a regular lecturer at prestigious academic institutions. He started making video documentaries as well. September 2018, he obtained his PhD degree with a dissertation on the Mexican Drug Violence.

After 5 years working hard, 2018 I successfully defended my PhD thesis on The Mexican Drug Violence. So from now on, it is Dr Voeten. But friends can still call me Teun…

My study has been thoroughly rewritten and updated and will appear under the title ‘The Mexican Drug Violnce. Hybrid Warfare, Predatory Capitalism and the Logic of Cruelty Autumn 2020 at Small Wars Journal Publications.

Same for the translation of my book and my war photography projects. It can be difficult, but I love to be independent. But somehow my financial resources tend to be rather stretched.
